I recently Purchased a GoPro Hero 3 Black and I cant wait to get some spearfishing Footage for my Youtube Channel.

Im not really sure what settings i should use tho? I got a few questions...

Do you use PAL or NTSC? Why?

What quality do you use when you film? 1080p 50fps WIde angle?

Have you used Protune before?

Or any other Hints, tips and Advice anyone has that would help would be awesome!

http://www.youtube.com/360spearo Wouldn't mind a few extra subs haha

I use 720P-60FPS and pretty sure it's on wide angle. not sure the difference between NTSC or PAL.

I found this way pretty good and haven't needed to change the settings yet, although my battery times do vary A LOT.

recording non stop on these settings I can get anywhere between 50min of footage or 90min ..

Let me know if you figure out a better setting to use Jaka :)

Thanks, i used 1080p 60fps Medium view and the quality was amazing underwater! I only had one problem with it tho, which was that it was too high ontop of my head and sticking out of the water a fair bit. It was mounted on the Gopro Headstrap and was quite comfortable to use. Just wondering if anyone else uses the GoPro Headstrap? I did get alot of footage under the water when i dived down and when i was purposely trying to video things when i was at the top, but looking through the video i was quite annoyed at how much time the camera was above water.

Erm. I used the chest strap a couple of times... completely rubbish footage haha but that's alright I got it for bike riding and stuff anyway :)

I use the headstrap, angled at about 45deg roughly to the plate... it does spend 50% of the time above water while you're on the surface but when I do duck dive and shoot a fish it captures about 80% of the duck dive and 100% of the shooting once I'm horizontal.

Most people who make youtube videos use a combination of Headstrap / Gun Mount, + maybe a buddy who films other angles using stick mounts and focusing the camera on the spearo.

When i have enough footage to put some more Youtube vids up, im gonna avoid having the splashing in the video anyway, just focusing on the important parts of the dive. Have you ever used a Battery BacPac? if so can it still fit on the head strap mount properly? Because i took my GoPro to Queenscliff last week for a test and it recorded for 58minutes of 1080p 60Fps M Before running flat. Going to FNQ for two weeks from tomorrow, hopefully i can get some awesome footage, never dived up there before and wanted to maximise the video time.

I'm the same 1080 @ 60fps, the quality is awesome and if you do need a slow mo it's still ok, i use the headstrap as well as wrist strap, as far as the head mount goes you can the extra extensions and that will fit the bacpac easy, i have the goro floaty backdoor on mine for peace of mind. I intend to look into making/buying a side mount for the gun so let ya know how that goes.
Anyone tried mounting to handspear?

Anyone know how to claim the gopro to your spear gun?

I bought a battery BacPac a few days ago, still yet to use it underwater, but in the box it came with all the handy extras I thought I might have needed to buy like the charge cable and dive backdoor. You gotta love gopro! The extension arm it came with will be really helpful too.

Lured2fish, you do relise how much drag a gopro mount would have on a handspear right? Haha

I'm actually thinking a wrist mount would be good to use with a handspear? Must try it out one day.
