The competition will start on the 1st of November and run till the end of March.

2 photos per month, per competitor.

Photos must be submitted by email to Kurt before the end of the month which you wish to enter, e.g. to be eligible for November, photos must be submitted by 11.59pm November 30th.

There will be monthly prizes of Blue Water Hunting DVDs to be won, and a big thank you to Rob Torelli for the donation.

The major prize will be a framed picture in both 'Photo of the Year' and 'Tally Winer'. Size and design are still being decided on.

The judges will be Rob Torelli (6 times Australian spearfishing champion and world renowned photographer) and Dr. Matt Koopman (Vic AUF chair, and high experienced spearfisherman.)

 Photoshop has been discussed and at the moment the majority of people that have expressed an interest in the competition want basic photoshop- gamma, contrast and brightness. There is one or two divers that passionately disagree with any manipulation of the images, but for now it will be majority rules. If people have an issue with this please raise it now, the comp will start in approx a week and it would be great to have things balanced out.

Voting for the 'Photo of the Year' is still being negotiated, it will most probably be done electronically and the results kept till presentation night with the framed photos being awarded as the results are read out.

Hope you guys have some fun with this, and cant wait to see some photos come in...

happy snapping

Okay guys the comp starts tomorrow! Get your cameras at the ready.

This is how i'm going to set out the photos for voting, each month will get its own post with a POLL which everyone can vote for one picture, the forums built in coding allows for only one vote per persons account, therefore there can be no cheating.

Kurt.

after going over and over the issue of editing vs non editing photos, i believe that it is most appropriate to follow the format that some other more established photo comp are running- basic photo 'touch ups' will be allowed during the comp...this means-
*contrast
*gamma
*brightness
can be applied to your photo/s

NO colour manipulation at all, NO hue or saturation manipulation either.

a majority of divers who have expressed interested in the photo comp have said that they would perfer basic editing, while a minority have said they would perfer no editing at all. my apologies to those that disagree with the basic editing and hope you guys still compete, and perhaps submit some photos that dont even need and brightness adjustment or contrast touch up...good luck and happy snapping

The latest newsletter actually said the competition began in December? I'm not sure if this is a error, however nobody seems to be the photography mode.

I wouldn't think you would have to go anywhere special to see salmon

Is that top nudi the same as the bottom one with color adjusted?
not sure, it may be, grant said he was playing around with his camera and found an option that changes colours. apparently there were a few nudis around that day...just to clarify, if your camera can do it (change colours) that is allowed, post production editing of colours is not.

due to the mix up of the start due, with the latest club news letter stating the comp starts in dec, we could take two different paths here,

1) allow late submissions, lets say by the 10th of dec, photos can be submitted for the month of november. and then dec photos will be due by the 31st

or

2) we restart the comp offically today, and first photos for the comp will be accepted at the end of the month.(though grant and mine photos will still be included for consideration for the photo of the year, but not for the tally.

otherwise do you guys have any ideas :?:

shamous, salmon were photographed at portsea  not really big, but fun to watch...

club voted on wednesday night; the 4 images will stay in the month of november, rather than being shifted into december.

there seemed to be some keen interest in the comp, so come on guys, get in there and show the freediving community what you have got.....whether your a begginer or advanced the more people who contribute the greater the future this comp has....bigger prizes, higher exposure, mags etc

happy snapping

just a quick reminder that photos for the month of december will need to be submitted before news years days.

--submit two of your photos for a chance at winning photo of the year--

reminder: Jan photos need to be submitted before the end of the month, its summer time so hopefully we have some great images submitted.

NOTE: photos don't need to be professional shots, this is a fun photo comp, so if you have a photo or two you particularly like, share it with the diving community and contribute your experiences.
