shadow, that picture of the sea horse is amazing, how do you get that sort of contrast, has it been edited at all?

hey, i have just brought a digicam camera. i tried to take a few underwater pics on wed and they came out all blurry. moving objects.
the cam has no specific underwater photo taking settings and i dont know how to take a good underwwater pic.
i have no problem taking pics above water.
is it just a shit camera or am i doing something wrong?

D_Flitton check your macro setting most likely this is causing you to take blurred shots. Switch the Macro off then take a photo should come out according to your expectation.

i agree with squire that could be the problem, you could also consider

blurred photos underwater can be caused by a number of different things, most common is related to how much light is available. generally underwater there is less natural light than above water. this causes the lens to work over time when using the same setting for under/above water. one way to fix this is to adjust your setting (if you have options for them) and increase the aperture. if you do this the lens will stay open longer and allow more light in, however you must hold your shot very steady or it will blur (which may be what is happening now).

secondly, underwater photos are a numbers game, for every 10-15 you take there may be 2-3 good ones. just remember that water is your enemy, get as close as you can, hold your shot very steady (above water this isnt so important) and check your settings according to available light.

hope to see some of your shots entered in to next years photography comp

macro; is a setting some cameras have to adjust the lens and make it possible to take photos very close to subjects with out blurring them. usually, this allows a huge increase in detail and quality, if however, you have the setting on and attempt to take 'normal' photos they will turn out very blurry. if using marco any photo more than say...30cm away is too far.

oh ok, i am think it doesn't have a macro option. it does have an option to increase light levels so i will try increasing light and then try again.
thanks guys

what about using the flash?
should i be using a flash from the camera underwater or just keep natural light?
i will try increasing the light setting and using a flash to see if that helps.
