Hi All, champion freediver Walter Steyn is running a freedive course in Geelong on the weekend of November 13 &14. If you are intersted in doing the course we will deposits by October 26 to make sure we will the required minimum of 4 and can take up to 8. Contact Wal on walter_steyn - at - yahoo - dot - com or club contact -Greg WheelBarrow on gregwheelbarrow - at - hotmail - dot - com for details.

Course plans :- Day 1 Theory 3 hours from 9 am
Pool in Geelong 3 hours

Day 2 Theory on beach for 1 hour from 9 am
Boat from Queenscliff 3-4 hours,

If conditions allow we could dive outside the bay to such wrecks as the Canberra or some of the subs. More detail in what Walter proposes for the course attached.
We can ask him to modify it as we wish. Actual times and coverage of
each subject will vary on the weekend depending on conditions, price
of boat and number of participants. Current price is $395, we need 4
people minimum to run the course. If we can get 7-8 people we can
charge $350 if boat costs, pool lane hire and airfares & accomodation costs (for Wal) do not blow out. Some brief info on Walter :-

“Walter has most of the Australian freediving records including 100m depth using only his fins. H e has been competing since 2002 and has set 27 national records in all competition disciplines. In 2008 he achieved no2 in the world rankings in dynamic no-fins with 175m (distance swum underwater using breastroke) and no6 in dynamic with 206m (distance swum underwater in a pool with fins). “

It did happen, and it was awesome. Dunno about the other guys, I learnt a lot, and added a reasonable chunk to my PB static and PB depth. We got to dive the Canberra too, once you ducked below the 5 m of silt it was quite a view.
