The same old bullshit propaganda is going on regarding the western Blue Groper. It really pisses me off and I still find it hard to except that this fish has been protected.

The Geelong Advertiser had an article in Thursday last week about increased sightings of the BG within the MP's in the heads. There was a few pics with the article. One of a diver on the bottom presumably counting fish, another of a horseshoe LJ, the other of 3 juvenile BG together. I did a bit of research on the net and found the pic of the 3 BG to be from South Australia in 2009!!!

Geoff Wilson (has had a fishing report in the Geelong Advertiser for decades) then wrote a letter to the editor in Saturdays Advertiser absolutely bagging the shit out of the BG claims and basically canning MP's all together. Was a great read. I contacted him to tell him the pic was from SA and this pissed him off even more! Seems he hates fisheries management in Vic more than me.

I was diving east of Portsea pier in Jan (East of the headland )1-3 m of water I counted about 6 of the little buggers. All browny/olive in colour. All about 15-20 cm in length. I have a good eye for fish ID. But no pictures  .

Edit. They were not blue like the picture in the article. But had the very distinct rubber lips, short and stocky.
Cheers

Definitely a lot more Groper around this season, seeing plenty of 2-3kg modals and heaps of small ones 15-25cms. Has to be something to do with the water being a little warmer this season.

Saw 4 today all between 15-25cm Sorrento back beaches, and I wont be surprised if I continue to see at least 1 every ocean dive.
