Hey Guys

After careful consideration and many hours of background discussion, we'd like to introduce you to the new SFD scoresheet, based off a concept developed by Bob and Pete, and voted on at the AGM. The new scoresheet follows the core principals of spearfishing by encouraging divers to be safe, selective and sustainable.

At first glance you'll notice that we've reduced the number of fish on the scoresheet from 60 down to 20, which is a big, but necessary change. We want to focus on the subjectively tastier fish and reduced the overall number of fish taken at each dive spot whist also maintaining enough variety to avoid putting too much pressure on specific species. While our minimum weights have always been well above fisheries size limits, we have also removed some fish that are difficult to judge the size while in the water.

You'll also notice that crays have been added since everyone likes to target them so much.
As most of the easily targeted fish were removed, we've included a junior only list consisting of 4 species that are common in Victorian waters. This will give our juniors a chance to get amongst the action and weigh in some fish without being pushed beyond their limits.
We look forward to testing out this scoresheet in our upcoming club series dives. The first club dive will be on 11th September.

Hope to see you all at our next meeting in our new venue, Chelsea Heights Hotel. Springvale Rd &, Wells Rd, Aspendale Gardens at 7pm.

We've updated the rules to allow for these changes. We've also updated a couple of other rules which are outlined below.

Since we've removed half the fish on the scoresheet, we've changed the rules around the use of burley. Previously, only the fish on the scoresheet could be used. From now on, any finned fish can be used providing it is legal to take. This is the same rule that is applied in national events. Finned fish does not include sharks and rays. Squid and crays can’t be used as burly even though they're on the scoresheet.

We’ve changed the age cut-off age for juniors from 18 to 17. This means that once you turn 17, you’ll be considered a senior and can only shoot fish off the senior list. If there’s 3 or more juniors competing once the leader board is released, then juniors and seniors will be on separate leader boards. If there’s 1 or 2 juniors, then they’ll be put on the senior’s leader board for the rest of the season.
