I shot a beardie today, just wondering if anybody can give me a heads up as to the best way to cook them.

Cheers, Dave

Bit late now unless you have frozen it.

Apparently they were popular in the early 1900s. Flesh is soft and flavourless. Supposed to resemble ling/European cod type of fish.

I admit to having eaten one and have lived to tell the tale. Like any fish you spear, feel free to try it. Let us know how it was.

Oh, best way to cook is to shallow fry in self raising flour.

Can't complain, just did it in egg and breadcrumbs. Other than a few bones it was quite nice, not mushy at all like I was expecting. I must admit the slime on the carcass almost put me off eating it, but I would certainly shoot another if I didn't already have a feed of snapper, flathead, boary, etc.
