ah ive seen that pic before, it's a deep sea fish, forgot the name, but they swim in shallow to die apparently.

tvolke is right, its an oarfish. there are couple of vids on youtube, only been filmed alive once apparently.

it is an oar fish, is it a coincidence that your name is Oar-sum ?? haha

theres not much known about them. they a pelagic species believed to be found all around the water in aust,
It could also be responsible for the 'sea serpent' sightings as it grows to 8 meters in length.
also known as, giant oarfish, king of the herrings, pacific oarfish and streamer fish.

i would assume that one died and washed in from current offshore.

weird looking fish, i would say something left over from the dinosaurs,
