I went for a look around altona yesterday and came across some fish that looked a bit like the rock blackfish I shot up in Eden. They only seemed to be in the rocky parts without weed. Biggest ones were about 20cm long. Dark silver/black color. Laterally compressed and quite thick. Can anyone suggest what it might be? Thanks, Rich. |

Girella elevata has been recorded all the way around to Shelly Beach in Vic, as well as northern tassie. But your fish may have been Victorian Parma (Parma victoriae) ? |

I was about to say it could have been a scalyfin, which Shadow has said already. They are black or yellowish looking, with often very thin blue lines on them. |

Thanks Paul but after checking the link provided I think it was a scaly fin. I didn't notice the lighter stripes under the mouth when I saw it but it did look alot more like a scaly fin than the rock blackfish. Cheers, Rich. |
