Post subject:  unknown thingy

had a dive today in a shallow weedy/sandy area of corio bay and saw heaps of these things ontop of the sand. They are about the size of the palm of your hand and almost a bit leathery in texture. Was thinking they may be leftover egg shell from something. just curious if anyone knows what they are from.

Really, always thought they were the base of a kelp stalk?

I thought it was a Moon Snail egg mass. You see lots in estuaries.
