Like this? Plenty of them around, especially in the Phillip Island area. I saw two decent models at the last state titles down that way a couple months ago.

While diving at Woolamai a 2.5m - 3m long shark came very close to us and while busy getting on the boat we couldn't clearly identify the specie. It all was quite quick seen from the boat ... dark grey brownish back with some bright spots, broad circular head, no pointy nose, pectoral fins not oversized, caudal fin not oversized with small but evident peduncle (blackish), caudal fin seemed to have some sort of darker outline (??), don't remember seeing a dorsal fin but could be wrong and if it had one it must have been small seen from the water face on ... broad head, visible teeth and black eyes, bright white belly It seemed more curious than aggressive but definetly attracted to anything moving on the surface. It didn't care at all about the fish hanging on the float. It swam around the boat once, then headed for the person in the water, it was first sent off with a poke of the spear, but soon came back butting its nose on the fin blades to sense the object and then swam off. |

Sounds like a sevengill to me too... Big dopey looky things I think they are, they rock up right next to you sometimes and give you a bit fright. Don't know anyone that's ever been bitten by one but they get feisty when there is a shitload of burly in the water! |

The lack of a dorsal fin would be a give away really but just can't remember if it did or didn't I thought the 7 gill was a light grey rather than dark grey/brown ... perhaps they turn light grey when older? |

I came accross a giller at the a schank one time, thoe was only bout 4-5foot and was the same colour as a gummy and had blue spots on it's back thoe when I dived down on it ready to nail it I noticed the lack of dorsal which screams giller! |
