Hey guys was out in Port Philip Bay over the new year and saw what I now believe to be a blue mowie. He/She was only a pup at about 20 odd CM and was not too fussed about my presence in the clear shallow water, as was swimming with the usual suspects. My doubt about the identification lies in the distinct bright blue markings on the lateral line and black spots on it's tail, also did not notice the distinct long pectoral fin, not to say it was not their. All other features are consistent with the blue morwong... Or at least a morning species... So does it sound like a blue morning spliced to other morning species? And if so how rare is it that they come onto the bay in the wormer water? All feedback welcome! Cheers! |

Stevo Did fish have dark blotch just below centre of lateral line? Juveniles in both blues and queens have this blotch but its more prominent in queens Queen juveniles have blue lines on body Not sure about black spots on tail. Distribution is right for a queen as Watto said Geoff |

I do recall hearing of someone smacking a couple of queens out wide off a mornington peninsula BB in a national title a few years back. |

That explains why I'd not heard of them. I figured it was just an uncommon common name for something I'd know . |
