Hey fellas, good forum you got going on here lots of info which is tops.

Anyways, pretty new to it all and thought well its something to do when the surf is crap, I am just messing around with a H.sling currently, yeah I know lol

Was just after some shallow water spots that you thought were good to learn the ropes, Im up and down the Mornington peninsula a lot so anywhere along there really and work in Cheltenham so could duck up around there after work if the water is good. Im a fairly strong swimmer, guess you probly wouldn't be doing this if you weren't hey? lol

Thought the sling is a cheap way to see if Im gonna like the sport and most likely look at a second hand gun later down the track.

Cheers Rhys

All the area from olivers hill to mt martha is generally decent, you just need to do some exploring. Be careful though, boat traffic is fairly nasty currently.

Gets pretty hectic down there.
Make sure you have a float and a nice visible flag
I dive that area a bit and haven't had too much trouble.
hope to keep it that way

Legendary are good but scubastore.com is a lot cheaper. Less than half on a lot of stuff after postage.

Amount that scubastore contributes to Victorian spearfishing $0. Amount that Legendary contributes to Victorian spearfishing HEAPS (not only knowledge but employment to many Victorian Spearos)! Legendary are a major sponsor of this club, unlike you Greg who is just a bottom feeder.

I doubt you have a job Greg, but if you do I hope that one day some one overseas takes your job away from you, because that is the reality facing alot of Australian's in retail.

His money would be nice. That's about it..

I'm not in retail so I don't have any invested interest, just find it a big spit in the face for our sponsors with people like you (who aren't even club members) pushing international online retailers on the Southern Freedivers forum.

I agree with you lethal, we should be supporting local business but sometimes when you are talking about a price difference in thousands (not in the case of the dive float), I'd rather keep the money in my pocket. Having said that, I still bought my complete gear at Legendary, because you can't beat the service you receive there.

Sad truth is... it's not only dive gear that is triple the price in Aus, it's everything to do with any hobby or sport. I have mates that are into snowboarding, cycling, rock climbing, and scuba. They all buy from overseas because you're not only talking about few dollars difference, you can literally buy the same thing 3 times over for the same price.

I got an online quote for scuba gear, including dive computer, tanks, regs, instruments, suit, fins, bcd.. the whole lot came to about $1500... in Aus you're looking at that for JUST the bcd. So which one would you go with?

/end whinge.

But you're right, it's a bit unfair to promote other stores on a platform that is financially supported by Legendary

Rhys has come on to this forum seeking advice, he is humble enough to ask questions from a beginners perspective, personally I find people that can humble themselves to ask such questions have high quality personalities. I have no significant affiliation with Legendary; however I do go out of my way to send people their way, why I presume you are asking yourself? Well, where do I start... since becoming acquainted with the Southern Freedivers last year, I have seen firsthand what Legendary does for beginners, spearfishing and the sport as a whole. Lethal is more than 100% correct with what he just stated ‘amount that Legendary contributes to Victorian spearfishing HEAPS (not only knowledge but employment to many Victorian Spearos)! Legendary are a major sponsor of this club, unlike you Greg who is just a bottom feeder’. I have read a few replies that you have written Greg in various posts, but have read little of your posts; you seem to be in the business of annoying people like a petulant young child. As the Mullet put it ‘You should fuck off to spearoz’. When it comes to the content of your replies it appears that you get on here to vent some sort of anger or frustration, do you live a troubled home life, or is your missus a bitch to you? How sad, maybe you should have a wank before you get on here to relieve your negativity. In summary the SFD moderators should record your IP address and block you. I feel that your reply to that would be something along the lines of freedom of speech... if you had quality content within your advice to people and didn’t just come on here to be a wet sock that would be great, end of story. Lastly, I will not lower myself to your standards and will not respond to any niggling that I anticipate you will reply. Furthermore, Gerry Harvey has done more good for online retailers than anyone else, as he has promoted awareness to the potential online consumer through statistical information as well as assurance to e-pessimists that quality products are available to buyers online. The only thing missing is customer relationships and advice, some products; for example clothing does not require advice and after sale care unlike specialist stores like Legendary where there are many small items that make our sport safer, easier and overall more enjoyable.

Anyway moving right along; BUMP, my apologies Rhys, the best thing you could do to improve your diving and to stay in touch with what is happening within the sport is to join SFD. They are an incomparable bunch of guys who share one great passion and if you want good gear advice Legendary is the place to go. Buying something from Legendary is almost like doing a course; the guys that work there are overflowing with knowledge, experience, passion but more importantly empathy toward entry level divers who are seeking freediving advice. Sure you can save a dollar purchasing cheap items online, but your knowledge and diving will remain cheap.

Peace and love to all

Of course there is Brett Illingworth aswell, based in Rye serving the Morninton Penninsula, once again, if Brett was just an online store his knowledge, experience and personality would be going to waste. He is another reason you should join SFD Rhys, you will learn more in one day off Brett than you would in a couple of years splashing around on your own.
