The 2011 Portland Tuna season has started very well with line fisherman encountering numerous Southern Blue fin and Albacore tuna in the past few weeks. Game fisherman have landed Southern Blue Fin already to the amazing 95 kg mark and Albacore tuna over 25 kg. Most boats are catching their bag limits within a few hours and releasing many fish.

Rob Torelli and fellow Blue Water Hunting International guide Murray “Muzza” Petersen joined Simon Rinaldi from Red Hot Fishing Charters on Tuesday March 5 for a day’s fishing. Also on board was David Torelli. David managed numerous Blue Fin Tuna to 25 kg and Albacore up to 20 kg whilst line fishing. Many fish were released and a few kept for the table.

Rob and Muzza were keen to land the first Albacore Tuna ever in Victoria and did not disappoint! In an action packed day they both had chances at both World Record sized Southern Blue Fin tuna to 30 kg and Albacore up to 25 kg. Rob was first to land a large Albacore weighing in at 15.17 kg. It was a State, National and pending IUSA World Record. Murray later got on the board with a fine 10 kg specimen.

Rob Torelli and his new charter vessel MV Southern Explorer will be operating out of Portland running “exclusive” guided spearfishing tuna charters from mid April till the end of June. All charters will be customised to client’s requirements with a suggested maximum of board 4 paying passengers. Lesser numbers will help ensure better results.

Price varies on group size but based on 4 paying passengers it works out at $600 per head. Hire gear (Riffe Blue water guns and floats are available for hire). All trips are photographed for clients and all chum/burly is supplied.

For more information email BWHI on enquiries@bwhi.com.au or contact Robert Torelli on 0417 55 99 85.

Don't you get yellowfin and shit up your way?

You could go out and not see a thing, or you could go out
And see 70+kg fish.

A very smart decky once told me "it's Portland, there's no rules"

And it's not about the size, it's how you use ut
