Just got back from my trip and want to go back already!
It was an amazing experiance with plenty of highlights and the weather conditions really were incredible (28 degrees and sunny most days), me and the misses got to swim with a juvenile humpback whale which is something i won't soon forget. Seeing the him dive down and dissapere in 60 metres of deep blue water was just insane!
plenty of fish caught for lunch including goatfish, snapper (inc red snapper), blue mackrel, cod and of course the beautiful parrot fish. often the fish caught where given to locals who are always very appreciative, but kept enough for lunches ect.
The one that got away was a GT - by far the biggest fish i have ever shot. I would guesstimate 1m in length ( a monster for my standards haha) This was done in fiji diving on a point, where theres a high reef structure and deep drop off, i was sitting up top motionless when i saw him cruise up in the corner of my eye on the high up reef. In my excitment i paniced my shot a little and struck him just bellow the gills. The power of the fish was incrediable, i dragged me under a couple of times as i did'nt want to let go of the gun (float wasn't the best and this thing would easily dissapere with the lot.
As i was attempting to pull him up i noticed he was kicking so hard he was tearing off the line and just before i could grab him he was off...a tear was shead that day
All in all an crazy trip and i will be back in the near future (with bigger guns and a better clue as to where to go to
)
