Hey mate seems like your behaviour in the water didn't help the matter. Not trying to say anything against you, but better to keep an eye on the shark than to hightail it outta there letting fear get the better of you.. Of course make your way away from it, but watch it.. More than likely it was a whaler, they are pretty cheeky (sometimes).. I think if you kept an eye on it, it would probably have been a completely different situation. Saying this having dived mainly in WA, well for the past three or so years anyway. Also saying this without any real knowledge of the situation, just going off what you wrote, so take it with a grain of salt ey.. Safe diving.. |

Yeah mate, it's easy.. I shat it first time I actually spotted a tiger that was hanging around (had a bigger one sniff me out and when I was busy shooting high on a big baldy which I did not see.. Haha) About 4m, so not huge, but yeah. Scary for the first time. Next time just keep an eye on them as you'll be more prepared no doubt, keep your fish close or in the boat. The bronze whaler and dusky whaler (I'm thinking the latter being most likely the species you encountered) have a very thin pectoral fin, with the dusky having dusky bits on the top tips of the tops of the pectoral fins and the bottom lobe of the tail. The tiger has obviously the stripes on its flanks and it lacks a ridge between its dorsal fin and tail.. It also has serrated teeth, whilst the great white has dagger shaped teeth. Great white has gill slits that almost go the circumference of the head.... Just saying. |

Get on Facebook if you have it. Search for the West Australian Undersea Club. Join the group. Hit it up to see if any club members are local to where you're diving. Go out with one of them. They should help you with spots to dive. |

Oh shit in broome, yeah ok. Yeah not as many that far up. Great spot though.. I would be more concerned upon chancing upon a croc than a whaler.. I know rare particularly in the open ocean and on beaches, but having been stalked by one north of Arnhem Land on the coburg peninsula I'm very weary of these crafty guys.. There is no bronzes as far up as Broome, they only inhabit the cooler waters. It was more than likely a dusky/tiger or some other kind of whaler.. With size the stripes on the tiger fade as i'm sure you know. |

hahah, yeh watto. I used to laugh at Trentalz when he donned his diving vicco comps. I took it to the WA comp 2 weeks ago but there wasn't many sharks about. so didn't use it. its not necessarily the size of the buggers up here its the numbers of them!

Haha Scotty found a big friendly one in your snapper spot! I found when I dove fitzroy reef the sharks didn't bother me but seeing a little Bronzy in vic scared the shit outa me! Haha |
