Spent the Australia day long weekend up in Eden in search of kingfish, weather was nice but the swell and wind didn't play nicely, only managed one day of diving for the 3 days I was up there (only diveable place was bitangabee). Still was happy to get away from the better half and bubs for some "me" time. Eden...so much to do in so little time...

No kingifish speared only a couple caught on line around 4-5kgs, lots of the usual NSW southcoast reefies.
Thanks to Cdog, AndrewV and Lethal for the tips.

couple of pics:

The water was a lovely pea soup.

Just returned from a trip to Rosedale, south of Bateman's Bay. Weather wasn't too kind but got 2 good days diving, one with low vis and one where I shouldn't have got in with 2 metre swell and was bounced by the ocean security and thrown down the stairs, kicked in the guts and told not to come back until things calmed down. Oh well, you gotta have a crack! On the two good sunny low swell days I was schooled by big schools of salmon at least 4 to 5 times on each dive. I took 3 for a curry as the missus' mum is a good cook. Also took a red morwong which was just as good eating as I remembered when I ventured up this way when I was 18. Could have taken a few more red morwong but just not quite enough size specimens to make a good feed. Saw plenty of just size luderick, wobegongs and dare I say it, blue groper! Mostly female blue groper and a big male. There was also small bream about. Lots of sea urchins but didn't see any pinkies or kings. by the time I'd scoped the area the weather turned so didn't pull out the home-made flashers. But nice to dive in 21 degree water which actually dropped to 19 degrees after a couple of days of cold and rain. Nice pleasant diving around Rosedale with the girlfriend but reckon Narooma would have produced a bit more success with the right knowledge and a more experienced buddy.

old salt... my parents live in Moruya...

i've explored a fair bit of the south coast...

i'd recommend Congo, and Tomakin- and should just go snorkelling at Guriella bay its sanctuary.. fish life is awesome

Naromma- i dont see whats so great about it-i've only been to mystery bay.. it isnt that great

try Congo or tomakin :)

I reckon the non-sactuary areas around montague island would produce quite good spearing mate. But you need a boat.

heard tomakin was good for flatties and whiting.

top prawns and oysters up at moruya and batemans bay though. spent more time in restaurants on the drink than in the drink.

yeah.. i'm talkin bout shore dilves..probably would though- be sweet if i had a boat

nah u should try tomakin...u swim about 300-500 metres.. and reef is basically endless.. also when its slow swell i would give congo a crack

yeah should try the tomakin club for lunch--like $4 a meal- bargain

Pretty Point - you can't dive the point leading to Jimmy's Island.
