Went for a canon ball run up to NSW yesterday after hearing about the tuna. 4 hrs sleep and a reasonable run out to the shelf saw us at the spot. Compared with last year it was not very fishy with only one encounter with the fish. Muzz fought a double hook up on line whilst i jumped in (thanks for the priority spot again Muzza I will be boaty bitch for the next 2 years). After 15 minutes in the water a few single fish started coming up in the very green water to take pillies. All the fish were in the 40's range. Dropped down and shot this fish and after a reasonable fight landed the solid 42kg speciman.

Note as to why you wear gloves when shooting big fish with wire cable (left mine in the boat trying to get in the water in a hurry).

Yeah used the big gun. Really think you need a blue water gun if you are going to shoot these fish over 30kg.

I'm a firm believer that you can shoot 99% fish with a 1.3 but with that sort of diving you would really be restricting yourself and risk the spear not punching through on any shot than point blank. My second shot with the 1.3 did punch through
