Hi guys,

I'm french and I'm coming to Australia for the first time.
I have been spearfishing since I was 12 (33 now) each time i got the opportunity. Mainly in mediterranea a bit in atlantic. Overall I have a good level i think. I specially like what we call here "agachon" basically diving to the bottom and waiting for the fish to come to you. Also like "indian" (i know funny names) basically swiming between rocks and surprising fish...
So I am doing a roadtrip with my gf (still hoping I can throw a few dives in the program) from byron bay to Sydney.
I was checking out the coast on google maps and realised it was mainly sandy shores and beaches. I was hoping I could rock hop but now I doubt it.
Because of this I am hesitating to take all my diving gear with me (hassle for transport).

How do you guys think I can do a couple of sessions and get some nice fish for dinner?
A club where I could rent material and get taken to diving spots?
Ideally I would love to dive with locals because I know nothing about the ocean in this part of the world. It is hard to make the difference between what are the real dangers out there and our exotic fantasies about sharls and all.
I usually hunt alone (i know it's bad) but I don't think it's gonna happen here as I have never hunt on sandy coastlines...

Any tips? help? new diving friends?

All the best

A

Hey Aquarius,

Read this link below or go on spearoz it will be more relevant to where you are diving. Also make sure you obtain a fishing licence before spearing.

Happy spearing

You'll have no problems finding a place to dive, most headlands up that way will provide a good meal. Like Geoff said try Spearoz.org mate. We're a Victorian club
