Sunday off Blairgowrie. Came across a large school of mixed in salmon, mullet and trevs.
Managed a PB Trev and a mullet before they left. Good day out on the water.

Thanks, I'm still adapting to Victorian winter after 14 years in tropics, but it's probably a time to start. 8)

Nice conditions in the bay yesterday, 16 degree water temp, 7-8m viz. Lots of zebs, leatherjackets and small sweep around. Got a couple of nice flatties for dinner.

Too many boats on the water

Mornington this morning:
16*C water
Viz good more than 5-6m
No swell or chop til about 2pm when wind picked up noticibly
Very few fish worth a shot but millions of small LJ with the occasional decent one
A few snapper around of maybe 30cm... worked the ground hard to bring in the bigger ones but none to be seen.

Koonya and Diamond Bay very poor visibility due to some ground swell

Quick dip before work yesterday. Squid everywhere, Vis 4-12m. Could have shot another 10.
Counted 27 on one drop.
Biggest issue is boat traffic. Had a fisherman snag my shooting line after a shot. Had my rig line fouled before but never my mono. Also had a boat drift into mine and hit the rear while I was in the drink.
Biggest 2280g, down to about 1kg. Nice to get onto them thick.

Bloody hell Blacky, good work. Was that this side (Geelong) of the bay?

I saw my 1st snook on Sunday out of Portarlington, easily 60-70cm, quite shallow. Nailed him into the ground but he still managed to get away!

small KGW, LJ's and squid. No snapper or flatheads spotted. Came away empty handed.

Putting your spear into the bottom gives the fish a better chance of breaking off because it holds the spear rigid rather than allowing it to move with the fish.

Thanks Greg.

I was too shallow to dive down and I ended up behind him so I was worried about spooking it. Nevermind, maybe next time.

Good to know, I will keep my eye out.

Heading out again tomorrow if the weather calms down.

"At least we looked good" - a report by me, and a highlight of my spearfishing career

Kiwi Scott and myself decided to venture to an unknown destination somewhere in victoria in order to target some squid. Upon arrival, i felt as if we were in a boat marina as there were already 40 boats out fishing. Ah well, we geared up and walked to the water, where we were greeted by a nice local who said to us "Good luck out there fellas, at least you guys look good" which made us almost fall over laughing

Mild current. Hazy visibility and lots of eggs around for no squid sightings. I head butted a boat, and then one ran into my float, and then another hooked onto my float line, and then i headbutted another boat. I laughed, but the people on the boat had no idea. Kiwi and i decided to come up with stupid things to say to the fisherman when they asked us how we are going such as "Ah im not diving, im actually underwater cycling" which gave us a good laugh when i said it to three guys on a boat that previously got tangled in my float rope.

Kiwi wore his gopro on his head to film some of the boat action in regards to how they treat spearfisherman, and how boats get too close and dont care about us in the water. It makes it hard for us to plead a case when four more divers jumped in the water, with 2 of them not having a float and flag...a death wish right there. After a rant by Kiwi to one of them, we carried on and found a squid each, and then i smacked a nice 1.2kg one (which might i add, is a new personal best, ill be signing autographs later) which looked enormous.

All in all a good day out, and the cafe after the dive earned a fortune from me as i cleaned out their shop, and Kiwi enjoyed his lime milkshake but he wanted it "extra limey" so he enjoyed it even more..

5/5 would do again. 5/5 sore head from boats. 3/20 squid were exterminated, but at least we looked good.

Nice work guys - I have been to various secret spots a number of times over the 10 days or so - no luck on the monster squid - sucks with the boats being dicks, nice day on the weekend will bring everyone out. I went to a secret spot of my own today where i knew there would be no fishing boats to have a sailing regatta swarm the area right as I got in the water....sailing boats move fast and make no noise.

Yesterday
Anonyma Reef
Plenty of fish including snapper but all of very small barely legal size
Water 21*C
Viz around 5m
Good conditions overall til about 10:00 when wind and chop picked up
Nearly head butted a kayak when resurfacing
