Had a rippa dive in the King Fish Cup on sat!

Me and a mate took a boat all around the island, mainly around pyramid and woolami, then tried a deeper spot with the flashers and burley.

Ended up with a boar fish, some good size sweep, a crayfish (1.2kg), a squid, a cuttle fish and had a very enjoyable dive learning some new techniques and diving my deepest depths.

We also forgot to put our food in the boat, so we ate sashimi! Blue throat wrasse, went down a treat haha!

If I came out with you boys don't think my pinkies would make it back to shore

"Boring info below you have been warned!"

Not trying to scare ya Nath just make sure the fish is fresh (not sitting in the sun for hours). Fish can spoil if not stored below 16*C. (mother & daughter who died in Bali who ate mahi mahi recently). Yeah it's more common in warmer water pelagic species but not out of the question with most other fish as they carry the same amino acid histidine which can break down to histamine which causes scombroid disease.

So take ice or eat fresh!

Ohh by the way, Got a mate who owns a Mongolian restaurant who swears on eating squid raw (straight out of the ocean)

Reckon if i was with ya's id try a squid tube before a blue throat;)

Geoff

Raw squid with flying fish eggs. You know you want some.
Geoff, cooking your fish doesn't stop scombroid poisoning. It stops more histamine from forming but doesn't effect existing levels.

Yeah I should have pointed that out. Sorry Nath any fish being taken for consumption needs to be properly handled/prepared whether eating raw or cooked.

Yeah I wasn't too keen on eating to much of it, but my mate smashed the whole thing haha!

It actually tasted really good!

Did some research and it looks like the fish fillet needs to be "flash freezed" to kill all the parasites..

I wouldn't mind making my own sashimi! but the freezer needs to be at like -30 degrees or something.. Might have to look into it though, especially if it makes blue throats a nice meal!

Cheers guys

Headed east on Tuesday with immortal, like much of the season so far it was very quiet. We managed to flash up a school of micro-kings early on followed by a couple of hours of not much at all. After a quick break chasing some small stripey boil ups we got back on the job, I managed to lure in a solo fish which quickly ended up in the esky. A quick reefie round up then a hard slog back in the boat in some pretty marginal conditions  . A great day out, very glad to boat one before the season ends.

It was unbelievably flat weather, cannot be any flatter than that. It was very hard work but, had some problems with my ears, and even the banded didn’t go down without a fight. Also was surrounded by school of big snooks, one of them join me for diner.
Big thanks to Scott for taken pictures.

Good work boys. Those solo kingies are sometimes the hardest to put a shaft in. Did you chase him down?

Good fish Scottie. Only the most elitist divers have managed to spear them this year!

Good to see you obeyed regs and clipped the tail.
