Photo taken at night with a flash, probably should have gone with 'soft' or 'slow' flash instead.
Thanks for the comment, next time I'll pay more attention to it.

Went out to Flinders Pier and Flinders in the afternoon. Vis was ok around 5-6 m. Saw a school of Trev's close
to the shore, gun was unloaded as I was heading in. A few schools of grass whiting, and some individuals which I did not bother
to shoot. A school of large salmon checked me out and disappeared. Should have stayed at the pier as Flinders itself
was bare except for the usual rats and vis was a little patchy. Saw a school of pretty big Luderick but let them be.

Nasty "fog" or "mist" shrouded the whole area, really cold and fast moving and as a result I stayed close to shore in case I lost sight.

Cheers. 8)

Went to Kilcunda with Paul on Sat, dived the out going tide, viz murky 5~6m and despite the small swell flattened out even more the viz dropped to ~3m on the turn of the tide as it always does there. OK with the sun behind, absolutely blind swimming into the sun.

The drummer was a mistake, it looked like bream in the murky distance and confirmed: totally inedible, should have burleyed it!
Saw few schools of nice trevs zooming pass and no chance of shot; decent snook clearing the scene the moment I've tried to drop down and take a shot.

Good dive overall!

i dont think they are seen as one of the real nice fish to eat.. i havnt bothered shooting one as to yet coz ive heard they arent that nice. but the flesh is meant to be like mush.. no mushier than mush.. might as well blend it, i dont think it would do much.. maybe a new baby food?

Like anything it's in what you do with it that matters. They sell live bluethroats for $28kg in Footscray and thats at the fish shop. They cost more in the restaurants.

I think that you will find the fish you have shot, although edible, are not
good eating if you compare them to the more commonly targeted species.
You may be excited about a big looking catch like that but you have to realise
that people will be more impressed by a catch of squid, snook, KGW, a bigger
leather-jacket, flathead, snapper, trevalley, sweep ... and so will your palette.

Good luck, and lets see some pics of higher order of fish.

(PS not trying to be a bastard but those fish are so easy to shoot they might as well have leapt on to your spear)

:P

None of those fish interest me at all. Maybe I am a little fussy. My girlfriend loved the Wrasse
I shot and she ate a while ago, I tasted it and felt quite grossed out. I have not tried to steam
them, but then even if the texture is improved they are not that tasty. I would rather eat a charr grilled/panfried Goat
if I was to have one of the "rats".

Without wanting to sound like a d#@k - its fishing season, so lets see some real fish!

Youre a fuckwit mate. Get off your high horse and leave people alone. There are plenty of decent tasting fish there. Magpie perch is one of my favourites. You've said twice now you don't want to look like an idiot, well you have succeeded mate.

Where's your pics ey? 117 odd posts with no evidence to justify your excessive opinions.

Ill tell you what lads, you shoot all them shitty fish and enjoy them and Ill stick to
the aforementioned fish. Maybe I don't get many of them but at least I am not
desperate enough to just slam anything. I'd rather be a dick than have poor taste.
Besides, I have nothing to prove to you and I don't think I am saying anything too
contentious. (Magpie Perch, favourite? Ok then, I see that I can't have reasonable
conversation about qualities of fish you with.)

Your best friend,

Dick.
