Sunday dive, though the strong wind and swell were up, with strong chop and currents. Vis was up and down, 3-8m with a lot of debris. Two crays were taken here 2.318 kg, and my mate pulling one just bigger at 2.324 kg (well done by 6grams).

Later that arvo, decided we hadn't had enough so found a new spot, 10m+ vis. We took out flashers and the plan was to burly into the water and see what came in. A bit of poking around resulted in... Nothing. Not even any wrasse. So I went back in close where all the action was... 4 crays in 3-4m of water. Two taken at (759grams and 1.022kg) and got hands on a 2+kg guy. Unfortunately he lost the front of his horn to win the battle. Well done.

A lovely calm 6ft Saturday morning saw us try and dive ocean side. Unfortunately the swell had picked up considerably by the time we had landed at spot X. The edge was murky and the swell curling nicely into our dive location. So we decided to hit another spot which kind of looked better, but we jumped straight in to zero vis. Ouch. The vis improved to a patchy 5-6m max further off the shore, with a hazy layer on the surface. The swell was increasing with the incoming tide, the chop and surge was a nightmare. There was scant any fish life, one cray seen sitting under a boulder, with a large front access and a sneaky side hole. It was a gimme, and my mate reached in with a solid hand on the cray's tail via the sneaky side hole. He twice dropped him, luckily to recover the cray and finally bag him, 1.6kg for his first ever cray. Good work.

Diving around the Liptrap area we had excellent 15m+ Vis Saturday and atrocious choppy 4m vis Sunday. Long days out, one cray seen at 15m and extracted, coming in over a kg. Interesting reef species but no schooling fish or Vic Challenge species.

Saturday out at the prom. Vis was excellent - 15m, but very hazy from the rains, and one of the 'poorest' vis conditions i've dived this area. Fish life however was the best i've seen. Monster snook, a good sized goat fish I shot in the weed on the sand, but the flopper didn't engage. Trumpeter and a few hundred trevally of the very small to small-medium size. These guys were really friendly to me floating on the surface, but very flighty when I attempted a dive. They responded remarkably to the rubber twangs.

Sunday was a repeat of Saturday except a school of 1kg salmon, one black drummer, one trumpeter, swim throughs, a nice boarfish, king george whiting and no snook. I searched high and low for crays, and it was a fruitless search. Plenty of good ledges, even more bad ledges, but not an antennae in sight.

Checked out a few new spots last Saturday and Sunday, plenty of fish life about, which is a good change from winter, ended up with two crays, 2.146kg and 2.460kg. Good eating size.

Conditions were very good. Viz was very ordinary. Quality fish were very scarce, but you could easily fill up on Bandeds, Sweep and Trumps. A little cool in the water but swimming back was much funner than walking back up hill. (This athlete's body is built for streamlined water action, not hill climbing!!!) Mitch squealed like a girl when attacked by flying Shark.

Out East, good vis yesterday, but dropping. Vis picked up again today. Almost zero swell at the dive sites, strong winds. Chasing whiting is a losing battle, but not always. Just on 400gr. Found the drummer right on exit.

Melbourne divers = "Walking up and down the hill divers". :lol: :x

(I used even to climb the ladder to get to Cheviot Beach for fish survey myself long ago).

Still, - well done and great photos!

Yesterday back in Aus at some ocean reef, took down this guy just under a kg (cleaned). Horrible vis which worked in my favor it would seem.
