Got in out west early today. An annoying swell and a little wind but nice clean water. 2 weeks into winter and there are still plenty of snapper holding up on the inshore reefs. If this global warming shit is for real, I say bring it on! Shot 2 nice ones but plenty of others about along with big schools of trevally and yakkas. Also plenty of reefies. Was a fishy dive for this time of year.

I'm not one for railguns but thought i'd give Bazza's (from IFSN) 90cm ARG railgun a go that I won from the kingfish cup earlier in the year. Would recommend these guns to anyone. Strong, accurate and plenty powerful with a 16mm rubber. Great little winter gun or comp gun.

Aireys Inlet - Sunday.

Miserable attempt to open the cray season. Strong wind, strong current and 3ft rolling chop all getting worse made a mockery of the day, 0 - 0.5m vis around the reef, 0 - 3m vis everywhere else. Sandy plumes boiling everywhere. Only made a dozen drops trying to find any reef. Most of those ended bumping my head into the sandy bottom. One small bommie located, a quick fire of the gun and the spear somehow anchored on something to mark the location. Second dive and somehow a cray was located. Well, more of a king prawn than a cray, so back he went. Our party was splitting up due to the conditions and a safety call was made. Still took two hours all up to get in and get out.

Redemption back at Aireys - Saturday

Almost zero swell, 8-10m hazy vis (a pleasure compared to last weekend). We all bagged out with crays ranging from 800 - 1.5kg. Tasty morsels. Not heaps of fish life about though that wasn't the focus.

I was down that way on Saturday too. Nice conditions, plenty of crays around, got one just under 2kg and the other around 1.5kg.

Headed west with Watto and Leigh on the wknd, we started off at the craggs where the swell and vis was average out deep and ending up diving back at pea soup to finish off the day. Great day to be in the water out of the 41 degs heat back in Melb, thanks Leigh and Watto for the roadtrip and also a big thanks to Christian who saved our arses and let us pitch tent in his yard!

Catch of the day goes to the eagle ray that got poked....and then took off with Watto's 1.1 Carbon Torelli...ouch!!
Wattos new cray camo esclapez wetsuit also had the crays walking into his hands and surrendering giving him the best on ground.

Best bag bitch was me... i opened and closed that bag like a trooper all day.

Biggest tin arse goes to Leigh for his cray which also happened to be the biggest as well for the day. Didnt even submerse his snorkle to get him.

Good times.

Peace

Nigz
