Hi, everybody.

In case you don't know we have a few people almost regularly training at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre at Albert Park. The training is every Sunday approximately from 10:30am to 12pm. Whoever is interested is welcome to join. Once inside MSAC, head for the diving pool and look for people in wetsuits with long fins. 8)

We also have a Google group, which is kind of official meeting place. To join it, head over here.

Although the sessions are every Sunday, not every time someone turns up. So, if you plan to come by, it's good idea to drop a message to the aforementioned Google group and ask if someone is going to turn up.

Besides, there is Australian Freediving Association's Facebook group, which everyone is welcome to join.

I'd be keen. At the moment I do surface fin laps at MSAC at least twice a week. As I'm working freelance hours at the moment I'm also available during the day when I'm not working. Less people. So if anyone's keen to head to MSAC on top of the Sunday session, send me a PM.

The dive pool is split into two sections. One section is shallower but probably twice as deep as the regular pool. It has lanes across the pool 25 metres long I think. People swim laps in there sometimes and they do water aerobics. I've been in there often when the divers are training off the boards. It's separated by a pontoon. It's pretty cool seeing them impact the water from below. You wouldn't be allowed in the deeper section of the dive pool when they are doing their springboard training. I've been in the deeper section quite a bit but not recently. During the day in late morning you can talk to the guards and if no-one has it booked then they sometimes let you go in there. I don't know the exact depths but you definately have to equalize. It seems about 20 feet deep. It's pretty cool in there. I think you can book the dive pool. But the guards seem to know who I am now and let me in occassionally. I'm going down tomorrow so will check the depths.

I'm not a regular myself yet. I myself found out about that training just recently, only only was there once. I thought writing this announcement was a good way of connecting people who are interested in freediving. At the moment it looks like the guys on the Google group do not know about the guys on this message board and vice versa. I'll try to keep members of this group informed of what's going on with the training to the best of my abilities.

AFAIK, nobody books the pool. So yes, it might be busy when you turn up and that means bad luck. At the moment there are just too few of us, and the training is too irregular to talk about booking the pool. But the lifeguards seem to have used to weirdos in wetsuits and allow us do our stuff in a corner of the deep pool if it's not busy. As Old Salt said, the diving pool is split into 2 parts: a 25 lap pool, which is 3m deep, and a 5m deep pool with diving boards.

hey guys. im brand new to this forum and madly keen to get into freediving. i have done a lot or snorkling / spearfishing around the bellarine peninsula but have never really understood how to control a dive for a period of time.

are you guys advanced or can a newbie join you guys? i reallt just want to get in with a crew that will share information and guide me in the right direction instead of the wrong and dangerous one!

i am currently swimming 6 to 10km a week depending on my free time to improve my fitness which has not been the best of late and i am using the Apnoe Trainer V1.0 and attempting longer breath holds whilst at the pool. But still i really have no idea what i am doing as i have never been shown the basics and fundamentals of the sport!

The MSAC group fell apart. Now we a just a couple of guys who show up at Richmond Recreation Centre every Wednesday night and try to do some training. We are certainly not pros. I have an AIDA ** in freediving and would have done *** if I had time. I'm not sure we can provide what you're looking for, but you're welcome to join. Shoot me a PM if you are interested.
