I'd like to know wether I can train for depth and in pool in melborne as I'm might come to do a internship at monash univesity hospital(medical student).
I'd be gratefull if you guys could tell me a bit about conditions for diving in dez/jan (2012/2013) in melborne and wether there are experienced freedivers training regularly in melborne.

Thank in advance

Hi there!

A lot of what you're after has probably just been covered in this thread: http://southernfreedivers.org.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3734&p=32709#p32709

As to the specifics of pool training, not 100% sure. Im sure you can do it, but as to where, when and with who I cannot say. Anyone?

Hello, I'm new around here (freediver but not spearfisher so have been pretty quiet). Depth is HARD to get around melbourne, in the bay, probably max 10-12m (that I'm aware of such as at pope's eye) unless you want a short swim at slack water and will probably need a boat. Outside the bay is probably a bit more promising but very weather dependant and unless you have friends with boats or can charter one you'll find it difficult to get there.

Pool training: A lot of pools are pretty tolerant as long as you keep out of everyone's way and don't cause any trouble. Most do NOT like static demonstrations although I have seen one exception. I don't think there's anything regular going on (would love to hear about it if there is myself :) )

Check out the Australian Freediving Association on facebook as well

Edit: I think Monash Uni might run an underwater hockey club that could also help?

Freediving training run on a night I work late, that'd be right! :) No chance of getting into the city before the pool closes on a Wednesday at the moment. Just out of interest, what time are you guys usually there (I wouldn't just turn up, would check if it's ok first, but just wondering incase my work hours get changed around at any point).

Cool :) Don't think I'll get up there this week from the looks of it but if it's ok with everyone, I might see if I can make it another day :)
