Hey guys, first time posting here....

I am not the kind of guy to go all out on equipment for spearfishing and or freediving so I am now in quite the predicament. I didn't want to spend all the money on proper dive weights and was wondering if it would be fine to place ankle weights around my waist instead of the dive weights? I have lead ankle weights that I can put on my dive belt. Is that a good enough substitution?

Cheers.

P.S. I mostly spearfish.

Hi,

Main safety concern with weights (belt, vest, etc) are releasing them quickly if you get into trouble.

Not sure how that works with the ankle weights you have.
Generally ankle weights will not be heavy enough to counteract any wetsuit buoyancy.

A weight belt with a quick release function isn't "going all out". Its a must for safe diving / spearfishing.
Be careful using any substitutes that may get snagged under water.

Hey Stoj,
I meant to say that I have a weight belt (with a quick release function obv.) and I have around 10lbs of weights. I just wanted to know if putting those weights on the belt was a good enough substitute for regular dive weights. Any thoughts?

Cheers.

Ok cool.
I reckon stick to wearing them on your ankles.
Or if you wont ever do that, then sell em and get weights for your belt.
