Post subject:  Jetski instead of a boat

I dive alone pretty much all the time and a mate suggested getting a Jetski instead of a boat.

I know a few VIC divers use them and I was directed to this forum. I have a few questions and if anyone can help it would be appreciated.

They seem smaller, easier to handle, and more fun. Is this the case? I've never been on one...will soon though. Are they easier to handle at the ramp?

What are they like to dive off?

Does anyone know much about them? I nothing about them so any info would be a great help. I want something good that won't cost a fortune

Any recomendations? I have no interest in doing donuts and driving like a wanker...it'll just be transport, like a boat. Darkness' yammi FX160 sounds perfect (economy, range, size and reliability)

I saw the thread "spearfishing off a jetski" and there is some good setups there. Does anyone else have pics of their setups?

Cheers
Cameron

This is prob a bit late but have only just joined this forum. My father in Law and I use a jetski in NZ when fishing and is an awesome way to get around. We use a 130 hp Seadoo which is bottom of the range in terms of horse power but is definately all you need. It is a 3 seater and we can fish standing up on it, more than enough room for 2 people on it too. They have a boarding ladder at the back, which if taking your fins off first is easy to board.
In saying this I havent been spearing off it yet as am only new to this sport. Another advantage is if you need to go over a shallow bar with it then you will have no problem, as long as there is at least 20cm of water you will fly through (just dont ease off the throttle). And in general they are quicker than a boat, and more fuel efficient, and you will have no problems launching yourself.

Hope this helps and isnt too late.
