I was interested to see which camu was most popular, and which people actually believe work. So please take time to tick a box and hit up a reply with your opinion.

Kurt - 'thought just occurred to me; is this something that can be accurately measured by people voting?

I.e. I'm guessing people will not have dived in all that many different coloured/patterned suits, so their experience would be limited to only that, and they could only vote for (based on their own personal experience) one of a very small number of suits.

As a result of that, I wouldn't be surprised if the colour/pattern of suit that's most appealing to people (i.e. a-spearfisher-in-a-dive-shop-buying-a-suit) rather than fish, would the winners of this poll.

:. Because that's the basis that the bulk of suits sold are purchased upon, and people can only vote for suits they've worn, the bulk of votes would go to the most popular colour/pattern sold to people.

No?

Hmm... wonder how this could be properly put to the test.

How about if on one of the SFD group dives, we got a group of divers in different patterned/coloured to close in (slowly) from all directions on a group of fish and watched to see which diver they picked up on and freaked out to first?

You'd probably have to do this several times, rotating the positions of the divers in order to (try to) account for/eliminate other factors such as current (i.e. carrying your smell to the fish), position to the fish with regards to the sun (i.e. whether you're lit, or coming out of the sun at them), etc, etc.

Anybody know if such tests have been done before?

if useing camo to hide from fish obviously the colour(s) / pattern would be best, is most closely matched to the terrain you were diving in at the time, allthough one of the theories for camo suits is to break up your outline so you look like a school of small fish making you look less threatening.

but saying that i've been spearfishing in a few camo suits, black suits an other coloured suits and havent noticed any difference only reason i use camo suits at the moment is purely because the suits fitted well, had the inside lining i wanted (metalight, cell, glideskin.) and were the right price

mmmmmmm it would be intrestring if the people in the black suits see and are able to get in range, to spear the same number of fish as the people in the camo/colour suits, as the fish might see the black suits as a predator such as a shark or seal. :P :?:

Perhaps we could all go for a dive with a couple great whites, say in an area like Shark alley in South Africa and see which colored suit gets attacked first. At least we will know what one not to wear. Though we may need to do this a couple of times just to make sure there is a preferance. My money is on the 'seal' looking ones.
The survivors can then test there camu suits spearfishing some of the monster fish they have there, giving the "gangster" technique a go, as the fish preffered to be shot in this style.... at least this is what I'm told. What it has to do with the color of the suit...nothing :?:

Roamin, this poll was more targeted at seeing if people wear camu because they believe it looks "cool", this is why the bias decision from that one suit they bought is not a factor. Also to see if it truly is strategic. Personally i believe a red or pink suit would be very effective as the colour disappears quickly in shallow water turning a pale colour much like snapper underwater. Though not to say i would wear a pink suit, Brett might.

I've got black, green cammo, canary yellow and a blue one. The blue one is the only one I never wear because it's a crap suit.
I really don't think it makes any difference. Fish seem to be more tuned into movement than colour.
