All good mate, wasn't having a crack just thinking out loud! When I heard how packed it was out there I was glad I didn't go, must've sucked for the boys who'd done the hard yards!

couldn disagree more with claymores and others who think you cant make a set of flashes as good as a set bought. a few blokes on here have speared some great kingies off my home made set over the years. i would take a photo of them but id have to go back to the coral sea and catch the blue marlin that swallowed them whole last month. a mirror ,2 halco tremblers and 2 metal lures that smacked together worked a treat

My point was simply, you spend hundreds of dollars on fuel, etc. to shoot a good fish, it is not worth trying to save $50 over a flasher that may or may not work. If you are prepared to lose fish to try and improve the design, all the best.

Fuck me. It only has to reflect light. It's not rocket science.

my opinion is to TRY whatever you think will meet the basic principle and give it a go
Why not (for example) CD's, Christmas jingles or laminates ?
Sure you'll look like a $2 shop swept away in the tide, but afterall as Brett wrote, it just needs to reflect light .... a bit of a rattle and strtegic placing helps too
