Hey guys, i bought my first spear gun on the weekend, a picasso asegai 100cm. I loaded it and once i unloaded it i noticed the notch in the spear is quite sharp and made the dyneeema fray a little bit.
Is this OK? or will it break quite quick?

"most shafts are ground out and polished. they should not frey the dynema after one dive.
lift the rubbers and "place" them into the notches when loading as not to rub the dynema on the shaft."

Also make shore you do not rub the dyneema with your shooting line crimp, as was the problem with me.

A lot of shafts have sharp edged notches, especially euro shafts designed for metal wishbones. You need to file them down. Here is a great tutorial on how to do it:

It takes about 5 minutes. You can get the files from bunnings for about $5. I do it on all my new shafts, there is nothing worse than having your dyneema break on a trip.

I use a dremmel with the finest grinding bit I have, then buff the crap out of it with the polishing bit. Works well..

All fixed, well at least it looks fine until i test it out on the weekend.
I pretty much followed the link Chris put up, but i added a bit of sandpaper between the file and the polish steps.

Turned out fine (would upload pictures but there pretty crappy from the iphone) Its not as deep as the after picture in the link, its just a smoothed off version of the original.

Also just replaced the frayed dyneema and ran a quick flame over it so smooth it over.

Will report how it goes on the weekend
