I am slowly getting my gear together and the first thing that i bought was my size 14 flippers. They were cheap and nasty but now that I am getting together my equipment I am finding it time to look at some fins. Any advice on what i should be looking at, i.e. length and flex and any thing else that I may have to take into account. Cheers and thanks for your help. |

I use Ray Powell DiveR fins in medium stiffness, find them to be great for shallow shore dives and deeper boat diving. Fairly expensive but worth every cent i reckon. |

Mate, generally there are 3 types of fin construction, there are also kevlar and other types, but I won't get into that. 1. plastic These are the cheapest type and you get what you pay for, my first real freedive fins were Picasso blackteams, they have a lifetime warranty so you can take comfort knowing they never die. The next step up is fiberglass, a lot of the time when u buy these fins, you may just purchase the blades and have to buy the pockets separately and sometimes a kit to attach them. Many people are loving the Aussie made DiveR blades, and from what I hear, if ur a medium sort of swimmer/size bloke.. medium works. You could go on forever about technical details, but do a little research ask other divers, try a couple pairs if you can! 3rd are carbon fiber blades.. again generally more expensive but are lighter and meant to provide even better performance. Hope I haven't confused you. My final 2c is do some research, figure out your budget, take care of your gear, and enjoy your diving! Shannon |

Thanks, can anyone point me in the direction of some good dive shops around mordialloc. I know of one in Mentone and one near BCF on Springvale road. Maybe a stupid question but when buying socks do I then need to buy a bigger fin? Cheers |

Ild recommend traveling that little bit further and going to legendary in Brunswick as they have everything I could need and they have the knowledge to answer any questions u have |
