hi guys,
i have partially built an enclosed track 1.4m mid handle gun. It is made of 3x19mm jarrah boards
that i laminated and squared up. Size is about 1500 long, 53 wide, 44 high.
At this stage i have a straight blank with an enclosed 8mm track poured and routed out.
The pocket for the neptonics trigger mechanism is also cut out. The handle frame and
pushrod track are also cut.

My main question is about the notch in the spear. Is a Riffe trigger notch the same as an undersea?
I dont want to buy the spear yet $100+, as i have already hit the credit card hard. But if an
undersea spear works, i can probably scrounge one up from a mate for a test fit.
I really need to fit the spear up before i pin the mechanism in place.

Once the trigger mech is pinned i can then fit the line release and round all the edges.

The gun is not really useful for Victoria, but i do get to Cairns once a year. Its not the normal
timber guns style i have done before. If it works out ok, i may make something similar out of teak etc,
minus any mistakes i have made this time around.

I will try to get pics up soon.
thanks tim

Hi Tim,

You need to use a riffe standard spear in neptonics mech's. Not a riffe euro. The riffe standard spear has a square sear cut out and big shark fins to sit out of the track and attach mono to. I have an enclosed track gun that I built and use this type of spear. It has a neptonics mech and works great. Can you post some pic's when it's finished?

Tim

thanks timg80 ,
yeah i knew about the euro style - it needs a riffe / wong / mori style shaft.
Just i thought the undersea shafts look pretty similar to american ones?
The neptonics mailorder from sydney is pretty handy though, probably wont
pour an enclosed track again - just buy one.
will post pics soon

Riffe standard spears (not the Euro) fit into Undersee mechs and work OK. I have only tried the combination on two-rubber guns, and don't know how well the Undersee works under greater stress.

The advantage of the Undersee (as well as it being home-grown) is that it has a shorter trigger, and can fit into a shallower stock, reducing muzzle flip (which causes the spear to fly low).

New Undersee mech's have a rounded sear and will fit riffe euro or riffe standard spears.

I have a gun that works well with an Undersee mech and riffe euro spear. This only possible as riffe euro spears have a long curved sear cut out. Normal small euro cut outs do not work.
