quite new to spearfishing and buying a new gun. ive decided on either the Rob Allen sparid, Picasso sider railgun, or the Torelli inshore Tigon (ALL 1 METER). Sorry to bother you guys with this but can you give me your thoughts on these guns and which ones youve used and prefer.
thnx, jacques

i have always used either a Picasso or Torelli and never had problems with either, its also good that the Torelli comes with a lifetime warranty. good gun range in both brands and also both are reliable.

agreed Trent. have used many guns over the years but my 1m Picasso carbon gun is the pick by far. It is NOT a railgun. It is perfect for Victoria - simple, accurate, powerful, reliable and quiet. I run a 15m strong reel off the bottom, allows me to let a fish run a little if i anchor up and dive untethered.

I have 9 guns but rarely use the other 8.

JDK - the brands you are looking at are all good. Just buy one and give it a go. The more you spearfish the more you will know what you like/dislike about the gun and the more you will know what you are after in a gun.

If you kindly care to elaborate Mr Octopussy on why you favour a non rail gun please?

i might help but, maybe different points to pussy.
the spear sitting in the rail can cause noise when fired where pipe guns don't create this noise.
also pipe guns are easy to load as you can grab the spear and throw it in the mec faster as there is no rail to slide it in on.

Thanks Trent.

Some SBD Ninja wisdom there.

Does nas01 have a point though?

its simple take a look at this, http://www.legendary.com.au/tech-railvpipe.php
i've used both and personally i run the exact same rig as octopussy. i found both my rail and pipe guns to act the same but like the pipe gun a fair bit more.
but in the end it all comes down to personal choice and preferences.

Rail guns are a little more rigid and a little more forgiving if set up badly. Pipe guns are a little easier to swing around. I have owned both and don't notice a difference in accuracy.

rail helps with re-loading quickly (sliding the shaft down the grove). IMO

damn that sounds nasty! 8)

when rob allen was in oz and was asked the question wether rail guns are more accurate at one of his nights he replied that he believes the rail comes into play with guns 1.2m and above, anything below that it didn't make a diffrerence in accuracy.

Rail all the way, I actually reckon it aids in loading.
