i've got about 8 weights on the weightbelt.. and i just end up floating on the back if stayed still.. when i go to six weights its alright but i want the extra two weights...
any solutions?

do people just put 4-6 weights on the weightbelt and get a vest for the rest?

also...tomorrow should be a cracker of a dive good conditions!

Im not 100% sure whats being asked here....

Have you tried changing the positioning of your weights? Evenly distributing the weights around your belt, or even weighting your front and sides a bit more might resolve your issues....

Sounds like you're diving with *a lot* of lead... do you know what weight each brick is? 1.5kg? 2kg? Using higher weighted bricks might mean you can position the weight better so you don't flip around (and have less bricks on your belt).

Ive never used a weight vest though it would seem that they would more evenly distribute the lead around your body which again would probably resolve any issues.

I dive with a pocketed webbing weight belt and use the scuba style brick weights rather than the threaded style weights and generally keep more weight in the front and side pockets than at the back. I also keep the weight belt around my stomach rather than on my hips. I like having the weight a bit higher as it seems to keep me more evenly buoyant (or un-buoyant rather) - though I don't recommend this for spearing as the webbing / pocketed weight belt slips easier than a rubber threaded weight belt (not an issue for me cos my belly takes care of it).

I dive with 10.5 kg of weight with a 5mm wetsuit. I weigh 105kg. (so i float a bit anyway)

Im 87kg, wear a 5mm wettie, and started with 5 x 1.5kg weights on my belt. To stay horizontal I had to keep kicking and paddling awkwardly. My back was killing after 2 hours.

Bought this Sporasub quick release weight vest for $55 to solve the problem
http://divein2scuba.com/index.php?_a=vi ... uctId=2499

The brand name lead weights cost $22 each but I managed to find some on ebay
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/380430065974

They cost $31 incl delivery for a set of 4, which is a lot cheaper than paying $88 for the brand name ones. They don't look as good, but who cares. And for those that do care about looks... they are hidden in vest pockets anyway.

If the seller doesn't have any of these weights listed on ebay just send him a message. Here is his ebay store. I think he also sells 1kg lead blocks aswell.

The vest and lead cost me $83. Unless you buy 2nd hand I think you'll have a hard time beating that price.

Now I use 5 x 1.5kg on my belt plus 4 x 500g weights in vest. It seems to do the job.

By the way, watching you float to the surface and then get flipped onto your back because of the weights would be funny to watch.

Too floaty add weight; too sinky lose weight, not sure there is much more to it than that?

Is that why you have been going to weight watchers?

/End thread.

Ditched my 5mm jacket on a dive a few months ago due to warm weather allowing for long-johns only. Forgot to remove any weight from my belt to compensate for the loss of buoyancy. Big mistake! Loading the gun and anything requiring head above water was an absolute struggle. The effort to reach the surface after a drop was actually kind of scary.

yeah think it was too many weights
wear a 5mm and 3mm springsuit underneath with 7 x 1.5 weights works well now

Time to purchase a good spearfishing 5mm suit and rid yourself of some lead. You just have too much suit.
