Hey guys,

Wanting a barbless two prong spear. Or do i have to get a hawaiian sling and convert it by removing the pranger and rubber band and putting on two prong head? Any ideas where to get one.

Thanks

Geoff

Whats the advantage of a two prong hand spear over a sling? Doing a bit of waste deep floundering at night or something? :)

Considering how cheap slings are, id be inclined to buy one and change the head / remove the sling, or the other option is to make one from a broom handle and a couple of large nails (since hand held spears cant be barbed anyway)?

as ossk said im assuming that you are wanting to try floundering. I just use a sling.

the law said that a Handspear is classified as a spear with no more than two prongs with no barbs.. and a speargun is anything that propels a spear basically. there is no law stating that you must only take flounder with a handspear, so as long as you leave the sling on the spear you cant be dicked with an illegal handspear.

Hey Ossk,
Wanting to fish andersons inlet for flatties and flounder and you are not allowed to use a speargun/hawaiian sling. But you can use a hand spear with two prongs no barbs. Stupid frickn rule especially the no barbs. And i cant find a two headed prong.

I was thinking of doing what u said and converting a hawaiian sling.

Thanks

Geoff

Hey twitch,
Thanks for the reply a speargun in the rules includes slings.

Octo i was thinking the same thing but with so many families down there people are bound to say you cant spear in the inlet and call 13fish.

yeah i know. which is why i use a sling for floundering, makes it so much easier.

in that case id just buy a spare head for your sling and just change them over. most pranger heads are soldered in so you can heat up the base of the pranger and once the solder has melted you can just pull out the desired ones and keep them as spares.

Hey Guys,

Got the hand spear done. Purchased a Hawaiian sling from Legendary. The sling had a cheap head which the boys converted from four prongs to two and shaved off the barbs. Boys did a good job and then I bought a better longer pranger that screws in if I want to use as a normal sling.
Sling easily comes on and off for whichever areas I'm using. Went down Anderson's inlet but left it in the car cause it was too blowy and dived cape Paterson instead.

Will let you guys know how it goes.

Geoff
