Yeah I had my mind set on nothing shorter than a 95cm, especially when I heard its 80% technique... but there was no point getting something I can't load. This will be great for now.

You will certainly be able to shoot fish with a 75cm, won't be too much of an issue if you're just beginning.

That's comforting, the way people go on about getting an 100cm makes me wonder if I'll be able to shoot fish at all.
I'm sure it's more about skill than a particular gun.

There have been heaps of occasions where I have shot fish with my 95cm from a range of less than one metre. Sweep and Leatherjackets will often swim right up to you. You can get right up close to Flathead and Boarfish also.

Great, thanks for the tips Dale.
One more thing.
I can't remember for certain what length of gun I bought.
From loading butt to the end of the gun (not counting spear) is 90cm. The barrel alone appears to be 75cm.
Does that mean my gun is a 90cm or 75cm?

It's the length of the barrel. The gun you have will be a 75cm gun.

Unfortunately this gets super confusing but some brands measure from the loading pad and others the barrel length. Before u go to buy a second spear for a pranger or something run a tape down the side of the barrel!

Ladyjiles if you would like to come out with me some time and try some of my guns out feel free. Just pm me and I'll send you my number. When are you back at uni? Maybe 2014 we can have an all female pair for the king fish cup :)

If your keen on the Ocean Hunter series I would certainly recommend the Rail gun 1000 or what size you prefer / need for your location (the green one).
This gun is the most accurate of the 3 as it has a ditch where the spear sits providing much more accurate shooting.

However, there are some downsides. My mates have both SG and the SG-S and there spear comes with a handy attachment for the 5 prongs. This is great for different locations.
The SG-S (blue one) would be my second bet as it very similar to the RG coming with all the same rope, etc. & for $95 you can't go wrong!

Thanks for the tips Raco!
I would have been happy to try out the Ocean Hunters.
Fortunately, I had the extra cash so I ended up getting the Omer Cayman 2000, which I'm very happy with.
