Hi guys,
Need an opinion.
A brand new toy turned up today, a teak speargun.
Unwrapped it all but then found a little split in the muzzle.
I have sent the people emails with pics etc and see what they come back with..
is this a big deal or am i being precious??? keep in mind it wan't cheap.
i just don't know, does it have the potential to get worse?? or do i assume thats as bad as it will get??
any opinions would be great.

Yeah weird angle for it to crack in shipping, looks the wood is moving. Maybe they didn't drill the screwholes out under the line anchor wide enough (or used wet wood?). Either way its going to want keep growing and the levering force from the line anchor is going to make it worse, you could epoxy and clamp it but given its new I'd make a fuss in case it keeps splitting and they blame your repair.

Exactly as Kiwi said, it because of the screwholes, don't except it. And that's why full carbon guns are much better but they very expensive.

Location: the gurdies and the ocean
that's timber for you.age, cut, grain direction mean a lot when machining timber.resin will fix it but that's not what you pay for.return if you can.

It looks like the line keeper got hit and the screws split the timber.
It's repairable; take off the keeper let a low viscosity epoxy to run down into the crack, then clamp it.
Or return it if you can!
It looks like 'Andre', his teak is not the same quality as say Riffe, but then the price reflects that.

Just to follow up.
They have offered to replace the gun and didn't require any pushing at all.
were very quick to get back to me and I believe it was probably done in shipping.
Anyway first class to deal with.
as long as it can punch a hole in a 30kg wahoo at 6m i'll be happy.........
i actually feel bad putting it in the water as it really is a beautiful gun, sure i'll get over that quick.
cheers

Hi
I've uttered a comment in my previous reply to this topic:

"...It looks like 'Andre', his teak is not the same quality as say Riffe, but then the price reflects that.", which seems to offend some.

As it happened, I was contacted on another forum by the offended party and informed that Andre uses 'A Grade' teak.
To clarify my comment, if a Riffe gun got knocked the same way, it would most likely spit as well, ...or may be not?!
As most timber is visually graded (I'm almost certain it is the the case of Indonesian grading system), it is quite easy to compare even to untrained eye by putting the two products side by side and compare (what ever you want to compare) and make your own decision.

Having said that, I do not own any Riffe, but have few Indo guns including Andre and like them on their own right!
