GoPro Takes nice 12MP photos but if you ever want to record you have it for that as well. |

Which one? The top models start to look fairly pricey as a stills camera... |

I have the Hero 3+ Black version. Great quality. Brett uses a 4 i think. Although Brett uses another camera for photography (Its very large). Kiwi will have an input here i would presume as i was talking to him last meeting about cameras and photography competitions. GoPros would be towards the lower to middle end of the price spectrum when it comes to photography i would presume. |

+1 for the top end GoPro. Takes amazing pics and footage. Compact. Heaps of quality accessories around. I'm no photography expert but i would assume if you went cheap then your underwater pics will be poor and you won't use it. The top end GoPro is easy to use and doesn't have a flash, instead has the low light recognition and automatically adjusts its settings for a better shot. |

What Lumix are you looking at? Like anything you can spend as much as you want, it all depends on what you are after. I've got a Gopro 3+ Black, I don't really shoot stills with it but its a good performer for the price (at least for pictures viewed on a screen). Being a bit of a photo nut I've also got a housing for my main camera, but it's not the sort of thing you can afford to leave on the bottom of the ocean when it disappears off your float. This can be a bit of a disadvantage, but the pics make up for it . |

I own two GoPro Hero 4 blacks, The footage they take is exceptional, highly recommend. You get about 2 hours out of the battery if you only film when you need to, but i take a battery bacpac on my cameras to double the battery life. I ususally film at 1080p 60fps or 120fps, if i want a photo, ill just screenshot my footage as it is such high quality footage. You can head mount it too, or chuck it on a GoPole or somethin, easy as to use. You wont be disappointed with a GoPro, Ive owned a hero 3 black and 3+ black which also take footage almost as good as the 4's do. https://instagram.com/jacob_negri/ if you wanna see some photos and short videos ive taken with GoPro hero 4 black. |

Great photos Jaka, Following also. Whatever you do dont buy a point and shoot underwater like the lumix. I have been very disappointed by these types of camera. I nearly bought a nikon compact AW130 but the reviews were awful. As everyone else has said, get a gopro, the camera and footage are great. If you are serious about underwater photography a mirrorless or DSLR with a housing is the only real option. G |
