Hi, I'm just starting out and keen to get the basics and I've been told i shouldn't bother starting until i have a dive float so if anyone has any 2nd hand gear laying around they would like to part with I will gladly take it off their hands. Cheers!

Just got some gear from Dive supplies Braeside, float, gloves and boots. Is there any other gear that is recommended?

You will need a handspear, float line, a way of storing fish on your float (speed needles work well, search in the forum for info), a knife for dispatching the fish humanely and quickly, a wetsuit, fins and some weight to make sure you are slightly positive buoyant in the water.

Make sure the float you got has a big flag on it so its easy to see. Very dangerous at times with boats/jetskis etc. Also, when you first start dive with someone off the forum who knows what they're doing and dive safely. Do not go outside of the bay for a while until you feel comfortable finning against currents etc. IT can be very dangerous if you get caught in the wrong spot on a backbeach.

You can do searches on the forum about anything you need. Lots of information here. Also, another forum called Spearoz has plenty of info about lines, guns, fish storage etc.

Thanks, just picked up a knife today, the float I got came with float line and a nice big flag. I'll just grab stuff as I go and if anything pops up here I'll have a look.
I've already had an experience with jetski's on only my 3rd bay outing, these guys had no idea or consideration for anyone but themselves even in the shallows of PPB.
