My first was just today at Williamstown! you wont believe if if i said i had a freak accident and injured my back just before entering, the pain was/ is severe, still painful when i keep my back straight. must have injured it as i bent down to put my stuff.
anyway, the water was so calm and beautiful and i came so far, I must at least make a dive. And I never regretted it, the water was crytal clear. Viz drop after noon. Manage to get my first fish ever which was a stingray with handspear. I saw lots of bream and 2 decent flatheads. But no experience beforehand I missed my 2 tries on flathead :( my spear hand lost 1 out of 4 prangs, bent the other one after missing and it hit the rock.. i incorrectly estimated the distance from my spear and fish and rock. buggered it :( and can't get close to the pinkies/bream. I am not sure were they pinkies of snapper, cos they look grey with stripes, I am unsure if the fish actually changes colour in/ out of water.
What a day, wasn't the best dive as I wasn't even swimming properly.. Floating most of the time can't even dive down much, I wore another wetsuit top inside, I thought it will be cold.

Gears I used : Seak handspear, Seak spring wetsuit and mask without j snorkel.

Can anyone tell me what did I saw today? It got a bream like body with stripes like Zebra, they were curious little fish. Will upload photo as soon as I get my comp on.

Shockingly enough, it was likely a "Zebra Fish" - or perhaps a Luderick.

Here's the photo of the ray, i cant be too choosy with my targets as i am still inexperience and i need all the practice i can get. Luckily for me i know how to make Grilled Sambal Ray. I would also like to correct myself the spear i am using, its a hawaian sling type spear.

it was alright as i know how to make sambal ray, but the filleting is quite a lot of trouble with all the slime.

I think it mostly likely a Luderick, because of the abundance of it and i suspect they might be breams too.

My first was yesterday...lol
Black drummer of Altona.(tasted good ). Water was clear as and conditions where beautiful. As a newbie I was rapt cause been trying last few weekends but keep missing and need aiming practice..lol

Also missed heaps off good sized pinkies and heaps off other fish. Lots off other little fish that I didn't shoot at, just watching them swim upto me out off curiosity. .. saw a huge ray, a big port Jackson etc, so much life under there on an out going tide....

There is a few black drummer at Altona and Willy Rhino. I've never seen one there bigger than about 500g but it's worth paying attention when a school of zebs swims by or when you see a silhouette in a crack.
