Zebra fish - 1963 ,killarney rock pool ; had ridden my pushbike 16 miles from Woolsthorpe pub. Used an old "cray gun" ( about 40cm long with the old trident spearhead ). That rockpool no longer exists.

Weed Whiting at Flinders in early 2007. Shot a couple and used them for squid bait that night off the pier. Did the trick very nicely.

Hey Tom, mate there are plenty of big 2ish kg zebs around, always have been, some great specimens were weighed in at the last comp. And for the not good eating argument, they are great pickled or smoked, or both (smoked then picked).

Bump... my first fish that I speared was a stingray off the southern reef (Aspendale side) of Mordialloc pier in around 1986 with a cavalero champion then a 2ish kg banded morwong off Bastion Point with a Sea Hornet Tourist around 1989 secured my diving passion.

Was gonna say it'd have to be a flatty or grass whiting from Mornington but then I remembered a dive with my old man at Rye Back Beach where we smashed a few big Kelpies thinking we were awesome until the smell came out of the oven!

Very far from awesome in the end!
