Hey guys/gals,

Carly and I went to the Avalon air show today. Great day to many sites to mention but favorites were the old World war 1+2 planes that i "tried" to build minature replicas of when i was a kid (Tiger Moths, Spitfires and P51 Mustangs). Others on high mention were the boat plane Catalina's, Hercules, Sea hawk Helicopter and other big cargo carriers.
Mind you the show that our F-16 and F-18 put on, seemed to be much impressive and louder then the US F-22 Raptor (first time in an air show in Aus). Besides being able to do a 360 degree backwards turn while still in a relatively stationary position (so not a loop) didn't see them do any radical moves or fly anywhere close to the speed of the F-18 from what we could see/hear (Even though Raptor capable 2400kph). The F-18 did a 9G turn right above us which made half the crowd put their hands over their ears and out of all the jet planes it was the hardest to photograph.

Overall heaps to do and see (100+ planes, 10-15 helicopters, circus, dirtbikes, 100's of stalls, etc) and quite a few of the larger planes you could go into and have a look. We were there for 5 hours and there was still 3 hrs of different aerial shows to go.

Pics probably dont do justifcation took about 60 pics but most of them werent clear due to planes moving and turning. Highly recommend the day if your wanting to do a family outing in the future. Fun for all.

Hey Wallaby,

Unfortunately most of the planes that were in the aerial displays including your WW2 P-51's and spitfires the closest you could get when we were there was 20-30m. The only other WW2 plane that we got within touching distance was the Catalina(flying boat). They allowed people to go up a ladder and sit in the port side gunner mount. But didn't do it as line was full of kids so felt a bit old. Most of the close access was to all the big Cargo planes.

Marmo traffic wasn't too bad we rocked up there at 830 (show started at 9am) and there was a 2km car line waiting to park and it took us 5ish mins to park and it was half full. When we left at 2pm (after the raptor) there were people still buying tickets to come in. I think 1/3 of the people left at the same time we did and it took about 5mins to get out. The road trips in between city and Avalon and back to city were okay, didn't seem slow.

Geoff
