Last time I dived, I saw a man with a speargun and a tank on his back entering the sea. He did not stay for long in the water, and probably caught nothing... but I was dumbfounded, since I was under the impression that spearfishing was not allowed to scuba divers: could someone deny/confirm ?

You can do this in Vic and WA. Not in Tassie NSW or QLand, not sure about SA or NT

I think you can spear them as long as you don't shoot the big blue ones.

They shouldn't be allowed spear fish or take crays  That's cheating.

I reckon it'd be harder on tanks to get crays, how often do you find one in a ledge that'd fit you plus a tank in it?

I spoke to a bubbly before about crays and he said he gets charters out especially to get crays. There could be 8 people on the boat and they could all potentially get 2 crays each. There would be some people on the boat that probably backed the protection of Blue Gropers, I can't understand that :?:

na man, you deflate your BCD and take it off, shove it into the crevace and in you go. A lot of people have massively long (~2m) hoses for this purpose. :D

Yep, I once watched a bubbler remove his tank etc to get into a ledge and get a cray. Looked like a bit of a hassle to me...

Comes in handy sometimes. Biggest Cray I ever caught in Vic was on SCUBA in 60 metres of water on Lonsdale wall. Not intending to catch cray so had no catch bag. Very interesting tussle during a very long deco stop. 6.5kg.

There used to be a photo on the picture board in my old dive shop. Predates digital cameras and computer photo storage. There may be a print hiding somewhere. Will have a look.
