So I had a serious run in with a 7 gill at Sunderland bay.... ver the dive I think it was the same shark, I had to push it off me on two seperate occasions. Now in SA we have a "cray" bag that we keep around our waist for crayfish and over the dive I'd gotten two crays and some fish and normally back home Id put the fish in there and wouldn't give it a second thought but clearly these 7 gills are way more frisky!! I was in about 3-4m of water when I felt I was being pushed around and when I looked down I saw this 7 gill had bitten the bag that was around my waist! It let go and came a seond time when I pushed it away twice more before it left the area and I literally walked on water to get to the rocks!
Luckily no serious injury to me but I learnt some valuable lessons!! so be warned when you dive in that area....
atleast I wont be putting my fish in my crayfish bag anymore!!
Got two great crays though!!

Yeah not such a good idea here in Vic, they're quite persistent!
Watch a vid on youtube of one of our members trying to defend his catch in a comp at Harmers Haven! a few of us lost our catch that day!
Vid is called "One Aggressive Shark" I think? By Spook Productions

Ya, keep your bag and fish on your float. I've never had an issue with 7 gills, but big rays are just as persistent (and at least in my experience) far more common.

Eckart just a local resident no reason to worry. He always creeps up on ya. Ive shat my dacks the first few times as you turn around after getting a ab and hes there all 7-8 ft of him, 3ft from ya. I seem to see him more when vis is low. When vis is great no where to be seen. I think he comes in due to people fishing of the rocks using berley as he feeds on their berley bags. Ive seen this as plenty of times hes been munching on a fresh loaf of bread that we have had in a berley bag when we fish the rocks. Diving this area ive had more issues from massive rays. There is a thresher that one of best mates has seen a couple of times while fishing off the rocks in the last year.
