Your lucky to have got out in one piece diving blackrock with no flag. Forget about your facebook page and spend some time here. You will learn way more in much less time.

Shoot first work out what it is later, well done genius. If you don't know what it is don't shoot it.

Hi Ashley,
I clicked on your facebook link and found a pic of you holding a shark you'd speared that from your comments, you claim to not know what it is. This club and forum encourages education and selective and sustainable spearing. Not knowing what you're shooting isn't a good way to encourage other spearos to get involved with your facebook page mate. I'd probably take the pic down. Anyway, your call. All the best with it. Consider joining the club and you'll quickly learn from a lot of experienced spearos. There are meetings on during the first Tuesday of the month. Good luck with your spearing. Cheers

i apologize for spearing that shark. Im extremely new to spear fishing and absolutely love it. Obviously i have a lot to learn, i was only trying to get in touch with people that loved the sport as much as i do and i only found out about this forum a couple of days ago and would love to come to a meeting and learn more about what i should and shouldn't be doing.

Balfiman. A good guide to learning about which fish to target is the vic dpi site http://www.dpi.vic.gov.au/fisheries/recreational-fishing/catch-limits-and-closed-seasons/marine-and-estuarine-scale-fish. Most of the species shown are common commercial food species but some are prohibited.

At the end of the day shoot only what your going to consume, don't be greedy and dont fish the same area all the time. And hopefully by people following this practice and teaching others we can keep our fishery sustainable so that one day you can show your kids and they can show their kids what a great sport this is.

Geoff
