Hi, I'm new to spearfishing and am heading upto Cape Conran camping for ny's tomorrow morning. I was curious as to whether there are any good spearfishing spots off the beach, I have a boat also but would prefer to dive from the shore. Is it a marine park off the shore?

Any advice or tips would be much appreciated.

Sam

Seals are more of a problem at Conron. There is a big colony of them less than a k out. It would be a bloody good spot if you didn't have a 50/50 chance of having your catch stolen.

IRB and an esky full of ice works even better and you don't die from exhaustion towing it. Not everyone has that luxury though.

A boat float keeps your fish out of the water and it's easier to tow than a float with a stringer.

Lmao, seals aren't the problem! When I was there I berleyed 2 fish and had a 5ft Bronzy come in. That was the end of my berleying adventure.

Berleyed as in chopping them up?

Also, will a dead fish floating on my stringer not moving attract sharks? Just curious

I dunno Alan......last time I saw your boat float, it looked anything BUT easy to tow through the water.

Watto I've been there more times than I can count. I've seen more seals there than anywhere else and had my fish taken there quite a few times. Never seen a shark there though.

Berleying- chopping up fish to attract other species.

At least there's a warning there Greg for people that are diving the state titles,
There's seals and sharks to worry about :-P
