Thinking of doing a boat trip next December or January. As I can't go to indo because I can't get holidays over winter!
I want to focus 50/50 on surfing and spearfishing. Has anyone been before? Any tips? What gear I should take etc.

I was mainly SCUBA on WWII wrecks and fresh water cave diving. There was a south African couple who run a SCUBA charter out of Kaviang.
40+m Viz lots of fish. you will need to dive with a local to get to the good spots off shore. not to many sharks coz the locals eat them. Think "CIG" with any large fish, even if the locals eat it. take flashers. full length 1.5 mm suit and don't get cut up by the reef. A bloke on our trip almost lost his leg due to septicemia from a little cut on his knee.!
I did take some spear gear with no luck. I went in August I think. no swell!

I believe the locals use the sap of a particular tree for Ciguatera medicine, I know they do do in Fiji.
