Wanted to say hello to you folks "down-under".

I probably know a few of you guys, and had poked around on your forum before.

I grew up a cowboy in the High Desert of New Mexico and went to Californ-i-a to Dive and develop engineering career. The water you guys have would spoil me from the murky-cold water I have.

I would frequently get asked why I went to CA. I would say to Dive and kill fish, most gave me an eye roll and thought I was crazy. This crowd would understand.

In my diving adventures, I got making my own gear back in the early 1990's. I'm a super small manufacturer and tend focus on new designs over typical sellers.

I made some custom motorcycle parts for a guy named Steve in Perth a few times now. Long way to go to make bike parts. I guess locals were ripping him off for $$.

-John

It's always good to see what folk in other places get up to. We have a fish called ling as well, a bit different to yours but damned tasty.
Has anybody got a photo of one of our ling they can put up?

Welcome Linghunt not the best picture but the the middle fish is a Rock Ling. Very slimy with eel shaped tail but great to eat. We only have 2 species in our Australian Waters both occur in the bottom half of Australia, Pink Ling and Rock Ling.
Pink Ling can get to 2m(6ft) and 20kg(45lbs) normally occur in deeper waters 100m+ and are commercially trawled for and Rock Ling grow to 1.2m(4ft) and 9kg (20lbs) occur in the shallows are normally nocturnal and live in caves/crevices.
