Hey so I am stuck at home when I should be in the water so thought I would ask some questions I want to enter my first comp (either sept or nov depending on family commitments) any tips on gear I need, gun size etc? I see I need a mirror and a whistle, where do I get these and any other special stuff I need except a gun & float? |

Hi Alan, a 900 or 1m gun is best, A mirror can be anything from a bit of mirrored Perspex to a bit of polished Stainless steel. Whistle can be the same as off many life jackets. (plastic with no moving parts is best). Your float will require reflective tape. Have a read of the rules its all there. http://www.southernfreedivers.org.au/forums/download/file.php?id=5839 |

So hopefully last question...the comp goes for 6 hours? What do most people do - dive for 6 hrs straight or do most get out for lunch? I presume that if i get out I can put my fish in an esky or do i need to keep them on my float? |

Usually the max time is 6 hours. Once youre out, you can either throw in the towel and put your fish in the esky ready for weigh in, or you can get out, eat some food and then jump back in. I am not sure if thats 100% correct though, one of the boys will fill in more missing details. I usually swim with a gatorade or two in a catch bag and rely on that for the duration of the comp. In saying that though, very unlikely ill last the 6 hours on sunday. There will be a sausage sizzle (cooked by yours truly) after the comp at a nearby park where the final weigh in will be held. |
